The textile industry looks set for a continued boom in the northeastern Province of Jilin following reports of profits reaching 100m yuan ($12m) during 2000, a 76.1 per cent increase on last years figures. Throughout the year the industry cut back and replaced almost 85,000 out dated cotton spindles and some 2,200 wool spindle. The region also reorganised its workforce, a move which many claim has helped the industry to cut costs.
