UK retail store chain John Lewis Partnership said its fashion offering has continued an upward trend in the face of testing times for business as a whole.

John Lewis department store sales figures showed that a 5.9% increase in fashion sales during August outstripped total sales growth of 1.4% during the month.

The company said that particular increases have been seen in girl's wear and nursery, sports buying and beauty, which were all up about 10%.

Both JL and branded women's wear also had a good week ending 23 August, as did women's shoes, which rose 6%.

Furthermore, total fashion sales at the chain went up 2.3% for the bank holiday week ending 23 August in the UK, ahead of a 2.4% fall in total John Lewis sales during the period.
