Apparel and footwear company Jones Apparel Group has promoted Susan Metzger as chief executive officer of its Women's Better sportswear division as part of a wider executive shuffle taking immediate effect.

Metzger has been with Jones for 11 years and most recently served as president of sales and marketing for Better Sportswear.

Susan Rieland has been promoted to the position of chief merchandising officer for all women's sportswear brands, and will report to Metzger. She previously held the position of chief merchandising officer of Bridge and Lifestyle sportswear brands.

Metzger and Rieland had previously reported to Lynne Cote, former CEO of wholesale sportswear, suits and dresses, who left the company last week.

Earlier this month the clothing giant, whose brands include Jones New York, Anne Klein New York and Nine West, appointed Wesley R Card as its new chief executive.

Wesley Card, president and CEO of Jones, said: "Susan and Susie make an outstanding team and I am confident that our women's sportswear division, including our Jones New York, Anne Klein and Nine West brands, will continue to thrive under their leadership."

In addition, Ronald Harrison has rejoined Jones after a brief retirement, as executive vice president of corporate quality and production. And Douglas Means has been promoted to the position of executive vice president of production for the Better Sportswear divisions.

Gregg I Marks will remain in his position as chief executive of the Jones Suit and Dress divisions.
