Jos A Bank Clothiers Inc (NASDAQ:JOSB) has announced that its sales in December were the highest one month sales in the company's history.

December's total sales increased 11.2 per cent to $33.9m compared to $30.4m in 1999.

Both comparable store sales and Internet sales saw an increase, 12.6 per cent and 134 per cent respectively, while catalogue sales saw a decrease of 20 per cent..

Chief executive officer, Robert N Wildrick, said: "We continue to set new performance records at Jos A Bank. When you consider that we have had four consecutive quarters of increased earnings, including three record quarters, and are having great results this quarter, I am thrilled with our results.

"Our sales trend should be one of the best in the industry, as our previously-announced stellar sales trend of November continued into December. The record December sales were stimulated by our Corporate Casual and Sportswear collections. Our gross margins were better than last year as we were very selective with our markdowns."
