Clothing chain Joy International's owner, Bengt Hango, has been given a three-year jail sentence for taxation crimes.

Hango was convicted of hiding SEK20 million worth of taxes and other state fees by a court in Molndal, outside Gothenburg, western Sweden.

According to the prosecutor, he made large reparations on his family's house with money booked in the company's financial accounts.

He also paid smaller taxes by switching part of their assets to the company's accounts before the end of the year and back again after the year ended.

The court has also banned Hango from operating any business for five years. Hango says he will to appeal to a higher court.

Joy International runs 52 stores throughout Sweden.
