Kmart is searching for its third CIO in three years in the wake of its decision to reassign Randy Allen after less than a year with the company.

Allen was named chief diversity officer and executive vice president Monday, 11 months after joining Kmart as the company's first female CIO. Her title had been chief planning and information officer and executive vice president.

"In this new position, Randy will create momentum around our key corporate initiatives and ensure we remain focused on implementing programs that are in line with our strategic objectives," said Kmart chairman and CEO Chuck Conaway.

While Kmart is currently without a CIO, Richard Blunck has been the company's chief technology and e-business officer since December. He had been reporting to Allen.

Before joining Kmart, Allen was with Deloitte Consulting, where she had become the firm's first female partner.
