Warehouse automation supplier Knapp AG has bought Dürkopp Adler's overhead conveyor systems subsidiary Dürkopp Fördertechnik, for an undisclosed sum.

The deal strengthens Knapp's position to supply integrated warehouse automation solutions to the fashion industry for both hanging garments and flat-pack items, and significantly expands its sales offer and service portfolio.

The Austrian-owned company will take on all 160 members of staff at Dürkopp Fördertechnik, with product development and manufacturing continuing at its site in Bielefeld, Germany.

"We are already working together with our new colleagues at Dürkopp on a variety of opportunities," comments David James, managing director of Knapp UK Ltd.

Knapp already counts companies like Bonita, QVC and John Lewis Partnership among its customers - and is also celebrating a major order from Hermes Fulfilment, part of the Otto Group.

The order will see it install the world's largest OSR Shuttle system for Hermes Fulfilment, which will feature some 176,000 storage locations at the company's distribution centre in Haldensleben, Germany.

The OSR Shuttle will be the heart of a new automatic returns system, with a storage capacity of around 1m products. Supplying 30 workstations on two levels, the it will process up to 15,000 item per hour at peak times.
