Export duties on some leathers are set to rise after the Indian Parliament Rajya Sabha approved an application on duties from customs officials.

The new statutory resolution could see export duties on tanned and untanned hides, skins and leather rising from 25 per cent to 60 per cent.

Minister of state and finance, Gingee Ramachandran, stated that the new resolution would discourage the exportation of leather raw materials to other countries and help to protect the domestic leather industry.
