US women's wear retailer Liz Claiborne has opened its first standalone store in Abu Dhabi as part of a distribution deal signed with MAF Fashion two years ago.

The new store in the Abu Dhabi Mall features the company's autumn collections from its Liz Missy (regular sizes) and Liz Woman (large sizes) range along with handbags, wallets and other accessories.

Products have been selected to reflect Middle Eastern climates and the taste and traditions of the women in the region.

Jeremy Johnston, CEO, MAF Fashion, said: "We are very proud to introduce Liz Claiborne to the fashion-conscious community in the city."

MAF Fashion, which is a division of the Dubai-based real estate to hypermarket conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim Group, signed a deal to distribute Liz Claiborne Inc's brands in the Middle East, as well as certain countries in North Africa, the Levant region and Pakistan, at the beginning of 2006.

It currently owns and manages 90 free-standing stores and a number of department store concessions trading under Liz Claiborne brand names, of which Mexx is the most prominent.

The company has plans to open a further 50 stores in 2008.
