ITALY: Miroglio taps Adidas exec to head China unit

Italian textile and apparel giant Miroglio Group has named former Adidas executive Aldo Spaanjaars as managing director of its China operations.

Spaanjaars will report directly to CEO Giuseppe Miroglio, who says the appointment comes after the company set up a China Market Development Organisation (MDO) to pursue growth in the region.

Spaanjaars was most recently most recently the Adidas Group's vice president operations for the Greater China area, but also has prior experience at J Walter Thompson and Siemens.

The Miroglio Group is a leading international textiles and apparel player, with 58 companies in 36 countries and more than 2,100 branded stores. It has 12,000 employees, and consolidated turnover in 2010 was EUR997.1m (US$1.32bn).

The company's fashion brands include Elena Mirò, Motivi and Caractère, while its textiles division operates five production plants producing fabrics, threads and yarns, transfer paper and technical film. It also has a 50% share in two joint ventures, one in China (with Elegant Prosper) and the other in Turkey (with the Ayaydin Group).
