Laos and Japan have signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on trade and investment incentives.

The agreement, signed by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), allows 50 types of Lao silk products to be exported to Japanese and other markets.

Japan will exhibit the products in Tokyo and other cities in order to develop trademarks for the products.

Data from the Lao handicraft and industries group Enditem said that Laos exported approximately $7.5 million worth of silk items during the first half of 2003.
