John Walbrecht, brand president of outdoor equipment and clothing company Mountain Hardwear, has resigned from his post after just six months.

The move will see the brand, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Columbia Sportswear Company, begin a succession process to find a replacement for Walbrecht, who is said to be leaving to pursue opportunities closer to his family. In the interim period Columbia president, Bryan Timm, will assume a more active role in day-to-day management.

"Over the past several months, we have been setting in motion many foundational aspects of our strategy to revitalise the Mountain Hardwear brand and are committed to continuing along that strategic course," Timm said.

Walbrecht, who joined the company from Fenix Outdoors North America, was named as brand president in February of this year. He took up on the role on 7 March.
