Sara Lee Branded Apparel is set to open its first distribution facility on the west coast of the US, at Rancho Cucamonga in California.

The 25,000sq ft centre, which is to be managed by APL Logistics and will employ 150 people, is set to receive product later this month.

"Opening this facility on the west coast offers increased flexibility to effectively distribute several of our product categories produced in Asia and Central America to our customers," said Lee Woodard, VP of global logistics for Sara Lee Branded Apparel.

"It is another step in our evolution to improve operating efficiencies and, more important, to reduce overall lead times and improve speed-to-market."

The Sara Lee Corporation announced last year that it would spin off its Branded Apparel company into an independent, publicly traded company to be named Hanesbrands. That process is set to be completed by September this year.
