Perry Ellis Dresses has appointed a new management team for its women's apparel manufacturing operation AV2000. Richard Weissman and Sophia Chan, its president and design director respectively, will now run this division and will be based at AV2000's New York headquarters.

AV2000, a privately held manufacturing corporation in Asia, specialises in the production of women's sportswear, dresses, and intimate apparel. Since 1980, it has manufactured apparel for North America and Europe with a focus on better department and specialty stores.

Weissman, an 18-year apparel veteran with extensive retail and wholesale experience, said: "Today's appointments complete the organisational structure of Perry Ellis Dresses. Sophia's design experience, including positions at Michael Kors and Vivienne Tam, and exciting creative perspective will bring a fresh offering to this segment of the dress market.''

Perry Ellis International CEO and chairman George Feldenkreis added: "We are pleased to be moving forward with Perry Ellis and Portfolio dresses and see AV2000 as the right fit for this division.''

The Perry Ellis and Perry Ellis Portfolio Dresses new spring 2002 collections will be launched on November 9 from AV2000's New York showroom.
