Sportswear giants Nike and Adidas are set to launch a crackdown on the lucrative trade in fake goods in Bulgaria amid growing concern over a flood of counterfeit clothing from Eastern Europe and the Far East.

Both firms are preparing to clampdown on Bulgarian traders who sell counterfeit goods bearing their logos and names that have been made in Indonesia, China and Turkey and are then sold at a fraction of a cost of the genuine item.

Reports suggest both firms may team up for the operation which comes more than a decade since similar checks on fake goods took place in Bulgaria.
