US: Nordstrom launches Jason Wu clothing collection

Upscale department store operator Nordstrom has teamed up with designer Jason Wu to launch its latest capsule clothing collection.

The Miss Wu line, which consists of dresses, pants, jackets, skirts, knits and blouses, is available in 49 Nordstrom stores and online. Prices range from US$195-$795.

"Amongst young American designers, the Jason Wu brand is highly recognisable across the country," said Jeffrey Kalinsky, Nordstrom executive vice president of designer merchandising.

"There's a large audience who want to wear his clothes. This collaboration has an appeal not just to a younger set of women, but to a broader set of women and at prices that are approachable."

Wu said: "I felt that there was a place in the ever-growing designer contemporary market for these feminine and sophisticated pieces."

JASON WU TO LAUNCH MISS WU COLLECTION

Debuting Exclusively at Nordstrom

Jason Wu is delighted to announce the launch of his contemporary label MISS WU, a new collection that will arrive in stores in January 2013. The MISS WU Collection by Jason Wu embodies many of the designer's signatures- beautiful fabrics, exclusive prints and impeccable detailing. This collection has a relaxed downtown attitude with the spirit of a modern but strong gamine.

"I felt that there was a place in the ever-growing designer contemporary market for these feminine and sophisticated pieces," explained Jason Wu. "Pete Nordstrom and Jeffrey Kalinsky have long been great supporters of mine. With the help of their extensive industry expertise, I am proud to partner with Nordstrom to exclusively launch my new project.

The debut Spring/Summer 2013 Collection will consist of 40 pieces that include dresses, pants, jackets, skirts, knits and blouses. The collection will retail between $195-$795. For its inaugural year, the collection will be exclusively carried at 49 Nordstrom's stores and Nordstrom.com. In 2014 the distribution for MISS WU will expand nationally and internationally with plans to expand product categories.

What's great about the collection is that while feeling different from the Jason Wu signature collection, it still clearly has Jason's design DNA."  

The cheerful collection has a subtle 1960's inspiration and showcases some of Jason's favorite elements including whimsical prints , charming dresses and bold colors. The collection consists of striped knits and his signature "hand painted stripes" on blouses and skirts. He used embroidered sequin circles and lace prints in tops and dresses. Brightly hued tweeds dresses and jackets are trimmed with chiffon. The other prints for MISS WU include a "falling feather" print, a blue pop-art print and a photo negative floral print in shirts, shift dresses and A-line dresses. Jason mixed in feminine bow blouses , grosgrain collared shirts. Leather details in jackets and dresses add a bit of toughness. Throughout the entire collection he used custom developed Italian made fabrics and trims in keeping with the designer's dedication to beautiful craftsmanship.

The face of MISS WU is model Meghan Collison. She will appear in the collection lookbook shot by Simon Burstall and a short film by director Todd Cole with Lori Goldstein as the stylist. Patrick Li was the Creative Director for the project. All the collateral for the pr "I have long been a fan of Meghan Collison" The designer explained. " She has both the unique look and effortless chic that defines MISS WU-I could not think of anyone better to represent this collection".
