USA: Oakley Signs Collegiate Apparel Deal
Sunglasses maker Oakley Inc is to develop a line of limited-edition apparel and eyewear with matching school colours after signing a licensing agreement with Collegiate Licensing Co.
The California-based company said the deal will see it offer a wide range of performance apparel featuring school colours, customised graphics and university insignias, with Michigan, Alabama, Colorado, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida the first universities featured.
The new line will be launched next month and 19 more schools are expected to follow by the first quarter 2003, Oakley said. Planned categories of apparel include men's wear, women's wear, youth, technical outerwear and alumni golf.
It added the collegiate licensing market is worth about $2.7 billion a year and the new line will initially be rolled out to college campus bookstores and certain specialty sporting goods retailers.
