Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to enhance the volume of their bilateral trade, officials from both sides agreed in Islamabad on 31 January 2008.

Visiting Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama told a news conference in Islamabad that the two South Asian countries wanted to expand the scope of their Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Pakistan's textile and footwear exports to Sri Lanka during the last fiscal year (July-June) were US$133m, while textile and footwear imports from the country were only US$2m.

The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Sri Lanka has been operational since 12 June 2005.

Under the Agreement, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have agreed to offer preferential market access to each others' exports by way of granting tariff concessions.
