AUS: OrotonGroup profits leap 20% in first half

Australian fashion operator OrotonGroup has posted a half-year net profit of AUD$12.5m (US$8.77m), up 20.4% on last year.

The company, which holds the license for Polo Ralph Lauren in Australia, said revenue increased 11.4% for the first half to $74.4m.

Same-store sales were up 12% overall, with Oroton growing 20% and Polo sales rising 5%.

The company opened ten stores in the period to take its total to 67.

OrotonGroup CEO Sally Macdonald said: "We are pleased with our 20% increase in profit for the first half of FY09 in what is considered to be the weakest economic climate for many years."
