The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is to introduce the city's first sportswear design course to meet the anticipated demand for sportswear products and industry professionals caused by the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

The new subject, entitled 'Sportswear Design and Manufacture,' is being offered as a module for students on the Bachelor's of Art Program in Fashion and Textiles.

It will cover the global sportswear market, sportswear design, fabrics and materials, as well as machinery and production. Students will also visit factories in the Chinese mainland.

The PolyU has received sponsorship of HKD628,000 (US$80,385) from sportswear manufacturer Win Hanverky Holdings Limited to set up the new course.
