Youth apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc today said first quarter net income fell 18 per cent to $12.7 million, from $15.5 million in the same period of the previous year.

Sales for the quarter rose 10.5 per cent, to $277.9 million from $251.5 million a year earlier. Same-store stores, which include American Eagle and Bluenotes/Thriftys, fell 6.1 per cent, it said.

Comparable sales for American Eagle Outfitters stores dropped 5.0 per cent.
