US: Retailers' March 2006 sales roundup

The following is a general roundup of apparel and shoe chains' March sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available
Young people's apparel company American Eagle Outfitters said net sales increased 9% to $201.6 million from $185.4 million in the same period last year, as same-store sales increased 3%.
Action sports apparel retailer Zumiez said net sales increased 37.3% to $18.4 million, compared to $13.4 million a year ago. Same-store sales increased 14.3 percent
Plus-size women's fashion retailer United Retail Group said net sales increased 2% to $40.7 million from $40.0 million last year, as same-store sales increased 25.
Urban apparel retailer Citi Trends said net sales increased 32.7% to $32.7 million compared with $24.7 million in 2005. Same-store sales increased 12.8% for compared with a 14.4% increase in the prior-year period.
Men's suits chain Men's Wearhouse said net sales increased 2.1 percent to $162.9 million from $159.5 million last year, while same-store sales fell 0.9%.
Teen retail chain Hot Topic said same-store sales fell 12.7%.
Value-priced women's wear retailer The Cato Corporation said net sales were $83.8 million compared to $83.4 million in 2005. Same-store sales decreased 4%.
Brand-name retailer Ross Stores said net sales increased 13% to $513 million from $456 million a year ago. Same-store sales increased 4%.
Trendy apparel retailer Abercrombie & Fitch said net sales increased to $256.7 million from $227.5 million last year, while same-store sales were static.
Ladies' wear retailer AnnTaylor Stores said net sales increased 10.5% to $212.5 million over total net sales of $192.3 million in 2005, while same-store sales increased 0.8% compared to a decrease of 1.7% last year.
Children's wear retailer The Gymboree Corporation said net sales from retail increased 10% to $78.0 million from $71.1 million a year ago. Same-store sales increased 5% compared to a 9% increase last year.
Contemporary women's wear retailer bebe stores said net sales increased 12.3% to $55.8 million from $49.7 million in 2005, while same-store sales increased 4.1% compared to an increase of 30.6% last year.
Brand-name apparel retailer Stage Stores said net sales increased 5.0% to $131.4 million from $125.2 million last year, while same-store sales decreased 3.9%.
Junior apparel retailer Deb Shops said net sales increased 1.4% to $26.7 million from $26.3 million a year ago while same-stores decreased 1.1%.
Career and casual wear retailer Dress Barn said net sales increased 5% to $125.3 million compared to $119.8 million in 2005. Same-store sales increased 2%.
Retailer and cataloguer Talbots said net sales decreased 3% to $195.4 million from $201.7 million a year ago as same-store sales decreased 3.4%.
Children's retailer The Children's Place said net sales increased 12% to $173.4 million compared to sales of $154.7 million a year ago. Same-store sales increased 6%.
Teens and young adults retailer Pacific Sunwear of California said net sales decreased 2.9% to $116.8 million from $120.3 million last year. Same-store sales decreased 10.9%.
Fashion apparel retailer The Wet Seal said net sales increased 15.6% to $47.3 million from $41.0 million last year, while same-store sales increased 16.2% compared with an increase of 36.3% for the same period a year ago.
Upmarket retailer Nordstrom said preliminary net sales increased 7% to $703.1 million from $657.4 million last year, as same-store sales increased 4.3%.
Men's wear retailer Jos A Bank said net sales increased 17.2% to $41.5 million versus $35.4 million last year, as same-store sales grew 4.4%.
Maternity apparel retailer Mothers Work said net sales increased 7.0% to $56.8 million from $53.0 million in 2005. Same-store sales increased 2.2%.
Off-price footwear retailer Shoe Pavilion said net sales increased 17.0% to $27.3 million compared to net sales of $23.3 million a year ago, while same-store sales decreased 1.1%.
Specialty leather chain Wilsons The Leather Experts said net sales were $27.9 million compared to $32.6 million last year. Same-store sales decreased 14.0%.
Casual apparel and shoe company The Buckle Inc said net sales increased 1.5% to $43.8 million from $43.2 million last year as same-store sales decreased 3.7%.
Large-scale retailer Saks said net sales decreased 38.5% to $360.1 million from $586 million last year as same-store sales decreased 0.6%.
Value convenience chain Dollar General said net sales increased 4.9% to $793.2 million from $756.2 million last year while same-store sales decreased 1.5% compared to a 4.2% increase last year.
Department store chain Kohl's said net sales increased 12.7% to $1.23 billion from $1.09bn last year as same-store sales increased 3.7%.
Discount store retailer Target said net sales increased 8.6% to $4.79bn from $4.41 billion a year ago. Same-store sales increased 2.2%.
Off-price retailer TJX said net sales increased 7% to $1.5 billion from $1.4 billion last year as same-store sales increased 2%.
Upmarket store group Neiman Marcus said net revenues increased 11.2% to $389 million from $350 million last year as same-store sales increased 7.4%.
Apparel and home chain Dillard's said net sales decreased 1% while same-store sales were static.
Department store retailer Bon-Ton said net sales increased 143% to $243.8 million compared to $100.5 million last year while same-stores decreased 4.6%.
Specialty apparel chain New York & Company said net sales decreased 7.7% to $94.9 million from $102.8 million last year as same-store sales increased 2.9%.
Department chain Federated said net sales increased 64.7% to $2.26 billion from $1.37 billion in 2005. Same-store sales were flat.
Lifestyle company Guess? said retail sales increased 14% to $56.8 million from $49.8 million in 2005. Samr-store sales increased 8.1%.
Retail group Limited Brands said net sales increased 3% to $788.2 million compared to $766.1 million last year as same-store sales increased 2%.
