US: Sales edge up at DSW

Footwear retailer DSW enjoyed a comparable sales rise of 5.4% in the year ending 28 January 2006, bringing net profits of US$37.2m, compared to $35m the year before.

The company was boosted by a fourth quarter in which comparable sales were up 11.3% for a net sales figure of $283.8m, compared to $231.7m for the same period last year. Net profits for the fourth quarter were $10m, up from $8.8m.

Net sales for the year were $1.14bn, well up on the previous year's figure of $961.1m.

The company expects comparable store sales to be up 3-5% in 2006 and is set to open 30 stores during the year.
