US: Saucony inks Olympic athlete endorsement deal

Author: | 10 February 2010

Sports footwear and apparel brand Saucony has signed US Olympic athlete Wallace Spearmon for a multi-year endorsement contract.

Collective Brands subsidiary Saucony is not disclosing the value of the deal, but securing Spearmon's signature represents a significant coup for the company in the build up to the London Olympics in 2012.

Spearmon comes replete with a CV laden with achievement, having won consecutive 200m World Outdoor Championships medals, as well as being the US indoor record holder for the same distance.

"What's inspiring me is the brand's emphasis on performance and innovation, evident in their spikes and their AMP PR02 training and recovery apparel," said Spearmon who becomes Saucony's first Olympic sprinter to endorse its range.

The athlete also presented a $10,000 'Run for Good Foundation' grant in his name to Boston-based Youth Enrichment Services to support field and track neighbourhood programmes. Spearmon will continue to support the Foundation for the length of the contract.

"As we begin the long build-up to London 2012...his [Spearmon] charisma and style, not withstanding his astonishing speed, will inspire and build our legion of Saucony followers as we work with Wallace in creating the fastest shoes on the planet," said Saucony president Richie Woodworth.
