Textile imports rocketed through Shanghai in the first two months of the year according to the latest figures from Shanghai customs.

Imports of major textile materials increased sharply, with raw cotton growing by 36 times, caprolactam up 1.4 times and wool and woollen slivers up 3.5 times, over the same period of last year.

The hike is being attributed to tariff rate reductions and concerns over possible war on Iraq which are leading domestic enterprises to increase their stockpiles.
