Portugese congolmerate Sonae has announced that it has entered Kazakhstan with its children's wear banner Zippy.

The retailer announced yesterday (22 August) that it has opened a store in the country's capital, Astana.

Sonae recently launched the banner in the Egyptian and Turkish markets, and said that the new entry "contributes to the fast international growth".

Miguel Seixas, Sonae SR administrator, said:"This is another step in the approach to new markets where our formats are emerging by differentiation and where we plan to proceed with a good pace of openings."

The store has approximately 450 square metres of selling area and has been launched through a franchise agreement with the Fawaz Alhokair Group.
