Clothing retailer and wholesaler Urban Outfitters Inc on Thursday posted a 22 per cent jump in second quarter revenue to $122.9 million from the year-ago period.

The Philadelphia-based company said in a statement total same-store sales for the 13 weeks to July 31 rose 11 per cent with same-store sales at Urban Outfitters Retail and Anthropologie Retail up 10 per cent and 12 per cent, respectively.

"We've been very gratified by the customer response to our apparel offerings this quarter at both of our retail brands," said chairman and president Richard Hayne.

"The 'comp' store sales momentum built each month during the period, helped by the arrival in June of more seasonal weather on the east coast. More importantly, the initial reaction to our Summer-into-Fall transition apparel in all three brands has been excellent."
