Up to 80 textile workers have lost their jobs with the closure of a Tennessee plant due to the continued flood of cheap clothing and fibre imports.

Workers at the Chattanooga mill run by the Standard Mercerising and Specialty Yarn Co, formerly SCT Yarns, were made redundant earlier this week.

The closure brings the curtain down on a business that once included 14 mills and more than 6,000 employees, including 1,500 in the Chattanooga area.
