UK: Tesco sales up, non-food performs well

Supermarket giant Tesco has reported an 11.5% rise in sales for the Christmas trading period, helped by strong results in non-food categories including clothing.

UK sales were up 10.1%, with same-store growth of 7.2% and 2.9% from net new space. International sales shot up 16.1% over the festive period, Tesco said.

Tesco said clothing, home entertainment, electronics, toys and gifts all sold well.
 
Tesco has emerged as a value fashion destination in recent years with its popular Cherokee and Florence and Fred ranges.
