Thailand's textile and garment exports edged up 1.1% during the first quarter 2013, with rising textile shipments helping to offset a slump in clothing sales.

Total exports rose against same period last year to $1.84bn, according to latest statistics from the Thai Garment Manufacturers Association (TGMA).

But while the country earned $1.139bn from textile exports, a year-on-year rise of 6.37%, clothing fell 6.43% to $701m. In the month of March, garment exports were down 11.1% at $231.2m.

The biggest export market for Thailand's textiles and clothing products is the ASEAN region (up 0.67% to $394.2m), followed by the US (down 0.38% to $299.3m), the EU-27 (down 5.93% to $261.9m), and Japan (up 11.27% to $191.53m).
