The US economic slowdown has had a negative impact on the export performance of the Dominican textile industry, which fell 7.2 per cent last year according to the latest figures from the Dominican Duty-Free Zone Association.

The Association said total exports from the country's duty-free zones slipped 4.9 per cent last year, with employment falling 10.3 per cent.

The latest Central Bank report, meanwhile, showed that income generated by companies in the duty-free zones fell 11.2 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
