Portugal's textiles and garment industry suffered a 6.9% year-on-year slide in exports between January and November 2005, reported CENESTAP, the Portuguese centre for applied textile studies.

Exports were down to EUR3.78bn (US$4.54bn) during the 11-month period, with the biggest fall in clothing exports, at 10.1% to EUR2.34bn. Textile exports were down just 1.1%, figures showed.

Clothing imports were up 1.1% in the 11 months, while textile imports dropped 9.5%.
