A sharp fall in demand has hit the Textool Company which is halving production and introducing a one-year voluntary work-reduction scheme.

The company said it is introducing the measures to save the unit from "its present financial crisis".

But the moves have angered workers who are not happy with a change in shift timings and work schedule.

The unions approached the Deputy Commissioner for Labour and an agreement based on a single-shift system on a rotational basis was introduced.
