Exports of cotton knitted garments from the Tirupur region of India have increased 12.45 per cent to 4,255 lakh pieces during 2000 compared to 3,784 lakh pieces in 1999. Despite recording a total value of exports increase of eight per cent over the year, the per unit value of exports in fact dropped by four per cent from $1.99 in 1999 to $1.91 in 2000, according to data from the Apparel Export Promotion Council.
