Top Gucci designer Tom Ford has pledged to stay at the famous fashion house for as long as he has freedom over its creative operations.

Ford recently revealed his contract and that of CEO Domenico de Sole are up next year - when PPR is set to buy out minority shareholders - and both have yet to sign an extension.

But he said on Saturday: "I'm totally committed to the company and I have no desire to leave but I need to have the freedom to do what I do to guarantee our product sells.

"Our contracts are up in 2004 and it's true we haven't signed to extend but as long as we can continue to do what we do with full control and independence, we both intend to stay a long time."
