Apparel prices remained mixed in the year to October

The output price index for all goods produced by UK manufacturers – also known as factory gate prices – continued to fall in the year to October, albeit at a slower pace than the prior month, while apparel prices remained mixed. 

The overall decline of 1.3% compares to a 1.8% drop in the year to September, according to the monthly Producer Price Inflation report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Between September and October, factory gate prices were flat, compared to a 0.1% dip the prior month. 

Clothing, textiles and leather product prices rose 1.2% in the year to October, but edged down 0.2% from September to October. 

The overall price of materials and fuels bought by UK manufacturers for processing – total input prices – fell 12.1% in the year to October, an improvement on the 13.4% decline in the year to September. On a month-by-month basis, input prices climbed 0.2%, compared to a 0.5% rise the month before.
