US: Under Armour to launch 'charged cotton' line

By | 28 January 2011

Under Armour is to launch a new performance 'charged cotton' range in the US - designed to wick away moisture.

The Baltimore, MD-based company will launch the Under Armour Charged Cotton collection in March, including men's and women's shirts and shorts and capri tights for women.

It said in a statement that the collection was the softest and most comfortable material it has ever produced. The charged cotton apparently wicks away moisture and dries five times faster than ordinary cotton.

"This is truly one of the most exciting product releases in the history of Under Armour, as charged cotton is the ultimate marriage of innovation and performance," said Kevin Plank, founder and CEO of Under Armour. "It has long been our mission to make all athletes better, and that's exactly what we've done with one of nature's most beloved materials."

The charged cotton consists of alternating hydrophilic (moisture absorbing) and hydrophobic (moisture repelling) cotton yarns to push out sweat when it comes in contact with the fabric. Under Armour said moisture instead spreads across the surface area of the clothing to keep athletes cool.
