Japanese retail giant Fast Retailing Co Ltd on Friday posted a 7.6 per cent slide in April same-store sales at its Uniqlo clothing chain – its 19th consecutive month of falling sales.

But the sales slump was far less than in previous months such as March when like-for-like sales were down nearly 20 per cent on the year.

Fast said per-customer sales in April fell 9.1 per cent while customer numbers edged up 1.6 per cent from the year prior.

The company recently announced plans to axe the majority of its UK stores due to poor sales.
