Uniqlo posted a 9.6% increase in Japanese market net sales in February, with same-store sales inching up 1.4%, according to parent company Fast Retailing.

The monthly figures for the clothing retailer marked a return to same-store sales growth after revenues fell in January.

Total retail sales were up 9.1%, while total revenues (also including direct sales) were up 9.6%.

The figures do not include Uniqlo's international operations.

"February sales rose year on year thanks to favourable sales of spring garments, particularly jeans and other pants," said Fast Retailing.

The company said Uniqlo Japan was on course to achieve its sales target of JPY243bn (US$2.4bn) for the six months to February.
