Fast Retailing Co's revamped Uniqlo women's clothing line helped push net profit up 50 per cent to 31.37 billion yen for the year ended 31 August.

The company also scored its first revenue growth in three years, with revenue rising 10 per cent on the previous year to 340 billion Yen. Same-store sales rose 2.5 per cent from a year earlier.

Sales of its women's line jumped 31 per cent year-on-year, the company said, with improved designs and promotional campaigns helping to bring customers back into its stores.

In the UK, where the company has three outlets, it posted its first profit since moving into this market in 2001. And in China, losses narrowed. Fast Retailing said it expects to go into the black here during the current fiscal year.

The company plans to open outlets in South Korea and the United States.
