FINLAND: UPM Raflatac relocates RFID production

By | 8 May 2009

UPM Raflatac is planning to shift production of its RFID tags and inlays away from Jyväskylä in Finland to Guangzhou in China, and to Fletcher, North Carolina in the US.

It also intends to turn the Jyväskylä facility into a development centre to pilot new products.

The changes will lead to the loss of 25 jobs in the RFID business - which currently has around 200 employees - although new jobs will be created in Guangzhou.

The proposed actions should be completed by the end of March 2010, the company said.
