Athletic gloves maker VO Gloves said it has secured US$2.5m worth of funding from outdoor company Innovation Distribution.

The funding will support the company's new product line as well as enhancing its manufacturing and design capabilities.

"We invested in VO Gloves because of the company's innovation to the glove design. It's rare when something truly unique like the VO CZiP glove enters a marketplace and redefines the way we look at a product," said Jon Roddy, chief sales officer at Innovative Distribution."

VO Gloves are designed to free winter athletes from the inconvenience of taking gloves completely off.

The line is being expanded to include other active winter sports designs as well as a woman's fit glove and models for everyday use.

In 2006, the company was invited to join the US Military Glove Sub Committee for review of the VO glove, and product designs were tested by the US Military in Alaska and Afghanistan under extreme weather conditions.

"Besides new fabrics and materials, there haven't been any significant design changes in gloves for a number of years. The reaction we've seen to the VO Glove CZiP-off design from the industry, buyers and the public at large has been huge," said Martin Baron, chief marketing officer at VO Gloves.
