Blog: Leonie BarrieLess is more

It’s about this time of year that our resolutions to get fit and healthy start to fall by the wayside. So here’s an idea to kick-start your fitness plan. Japanese firm Moonstar Chemical Corp has launched a ‘Calorie Walk’ trainer with a “low repulsion force and high shock absorption that gives you the feeling of walking on air.” Apparently you need to use twice as much muscle energy and inhale 13 per cent more oxygen than wearing conventional sports shoes. Is this another way of saying that the shoes are heavy? And how appealing is a product which makes the wearer more tired? A 30-minute walk requires about 1,000 additional steps, which is equivalent to burning about 30 calories. The company’s website is only in Japanese, but could be worth checking out if you want to see what the shoes look like.
