Industrial automation hiring levels in the apparel industry reach year-high

The proportion of apparel supply chain companies hiring for industrial automation-related positions rose significantly in October 2021, according to GlobalData analysis.

The proportion of apparel supply chain companies hiring for such roles rose significantly in October compared with the equivalent month last year, GlobalData says, with 87.5% of the companies included in its analysis recruiting for at least one industrial automation-related position.

This latest figure was higher than the 44.4% of companies who were hiring for industrial automation-related jobs a year ago and an increase compared to the figure of 70.6% in September.

When it came to the rate of all job openings that were linked to industrial automation, related job postings dropped in October , with 1.3% of newly posted job advertisements being linked to the topic.

This latest figure was the lowest monthly figure recorded in the past year and is a decrease compared to the 1.5% of newly advertised jobs that were linked to industrial automation in the equivalent month a year ago.

Industrial automation is one of the topics that GlobalData has identified as being a key disruptive force facing companies in the coming years. Companies that excel and invest in these areas now are thought to be better prepared for the future business landscape and better equipped to survive unforseen challenges.

Analysis of the data shows apparel supply chain companies are currently hiring for industrial automation jobs at a rate lower than the average for all companies within GlobalData's job analytics database. The average among all companies stood at 5.8% in October 2021.

GlobalData's job analytics database tracks the daily hiring patterns of thousands of companies across the world, drawing in jobs as they're posted and tagging them with additional layers of data on everything from the seniority of each position to whether a job is linked to wider industry trends.

Recent data from GlobalData has also found sporting goods giant Nike, Inc is the fashion and accessories company best positioned to take advantage of future apparel disruption in the sector.
