The following is a general roundup of apparel and shoe chains' March 2007 sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available.

Target Corp reported a 12% gain in same-store sales for the five-week March period, matching analysts' expectations that were in part inflated by an earlier Easter, which buoyed results for many retailers. Net sales at Target rose 16.8% for the month to US$5.59bn.

Teen specialty chain American Eagle Outfitters said that its March same-store sales rose 20% versus the corresponding 2006 period. Net sales were up 35% to US$271.4m.

Music-oriented teen retailer Hot Topic reported that its same-store sales for the month of March rose 3.4% from those of the comparable 2006 period. Overall revenues rose 7% to $63.3m.

Fast-growing lifestyle specialty chain Zumiez reported a 17.0% increase in same-store sales for the month of March, even higher than its year-ago boost of 14.3%. Net sales were up 53.7% to $28.3m.

Chico's FAS reported that its same-store sales for the five weeks ended 7 April rose 5.2%, while overall sales during the period were up 22.0% to US$191.2m from $156.8m during the like 2006 period.

Retailer for juniors Deb Shops reported that same-store sales increased 6.5% for the month ended 31 March, with total sales increasing 10.4% to $29.5m from $26.7m for the month of March last year.

Christopher & Banks Corporation said that for the four-week period of March, sales were $41.7m compared to $36.4m for the four-week period ended March 2006.

Avenue brand operator United Retail Group announced that net sales for fiscal March 2007 increased 12% to $45.5m from $40.7m last year, while same-store sales for the fiscal month increased 11%.

Family apparel firm Stage Stores said sales for the five-weeks of March increased 14.9% to $151.0m from $131.4m in the prior year five-week March period. Same-store sales increased 12.4% versus a decrease of 3.9% last year.

Men's retailer JoS A Bank Clothiers said that its total sales for the fiscal month ended 7 April increased 10.1% to $45.7m versus $41.5m last month. Same-store sales gained 1.4% in fiscal March, as compared with the corresponding period last year.

Costume jewellery and accessories chain Claire's Stores posted same-store sales up 8% compared to last year. Total sales during the five-week period increased 17% to $136.6m compared with $116.7m for the comparable period last year.

Mothers Work, a maternity apparel retailer, said that net sales for the month of March increased 4.2% to $59.1m from $56.8m reported for the month last year, primarily from an increase in same-store sales, up 3.6% for the month.

Casual apparel, footwear, and accessories retailer The Buckle has announced that net sales for the five-week fiscal month of March 2007 increased 12.7% to $49.4m from $43.8m for the prior year period. Same-store net sales increased 10.7% from the same month last year.

Women's apparel retailer New York & Company announced that total net sales for the five-week period ended 7 April increased 16.9% to $110.9m, as compared to $94.9m for the five-week period last year. Same-store sales increased 4.5% for March, as compared to last year's month

Wilsons The Leather Experts has reported sales of $21.9m for the five weeks ended 7 April 2007 as compared to $27.9m for the five weeks ended 1 April 2006. Same-store sales decreased 16.8% for the five weeks.

The Wet Seal, a retailer targeting young women, reported same-store sales up 10.9% for the period of March 2007, compared to the five-week period ended 8 April 2006. Net sales for the month were $57.6m, compared to net sales of $47.3m for the five-week period ended 1 April 2006, an increase of 21.8%.

Casual apparel operator Pacific Sunwear posted total sales of $140.3m for March, an increase of 17.6% over total sales of $119.3m during the same period last year. Total same-store sales increased 14.1% during the same period.

Merchandiser The Children's Place Retail Stores announced sales of $204.7m for the month of March, an 18% increase compared to sales of $173.4m for the five-week period ended last year. Same-store sales increased 7% on top of last year's 11% increase.

Women's designer Bebe Stores reported retail sales of $60.6m for the month of March, an increase of 8.6% compared to sales of $55.8m for the five-week period ended 1 April 2006. Same-store sales for the five-week period increased 0.1% compared to an increase of 4.1% for March 2006.

Stein Mart reported that total sales for the month increased 13.1% for the five-week period ended 7 April 2007 as compared to last year. Same-store sales increased 8.0% for the five-week period ended compared to the year-ago period.

Fashion retailer Nordstrom posted preliminary sales of $803.2m for the five-week period ending 7 April 2007, an increase of 14.2% compared to the same period last year. Same-store sales increased 15.0%.

Limited Brands reported a same-store sale increase of 8% compared to the five weeks ended 8 April 2006. The company reported net sales of $892.3m for the five-week period, compared to sales of $788.2m for the same five weeks in 2006.
 
Women's fashion apparel retailer The Cato Corporation reported sales for the five weeks ended April 2007 of $95.1m, an increase of 13% over sales of $83.8m for the same period in 2006. Same-store sales for the month increased 7%.
 
AnnTaylor Stores Corporation said its net sales increased 14.8% to $243.9m for the month, compared with net sales of $212.5m for the five-week period of April 2006. Same-store sales for March increased 6.1% at the retailer.

Brand store chain The Gymboree Corporation reported net sales for the month of $92.1m, an increase of 20%, while same-store sales increased 9%.

Aeropostale, a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, announced that total net sales increased 31.5% to $124.8m in March. Same store sales for the month increased 15.9%, compared to the corresponding five-week period ended 8 April 2006.

Gap's March sales at stores open at least a year rose 6% - above analyst expectations - according Reuters. Gap's net sales for the five weeks rose 16% to $1.56bn.

Fashion firm Abercrombie & Fitch reported net sales of $331.2m for the period ended 7 April 2007, a 29% increase over net sales of $256.7m for the five-week period ended 1 April 2006.

The TJX Companies posted March 2007 sales of $1.7bn, up 11% over the $1.5bn in March last year. Same-store sales increased 6% over last year.

Kohl's Corporation reported that sales for the month increased 25.4% over the five-week period ended April 2006. On a same-store basis, sales increased 16.8%, the company said.

Retailer Saks Incorporated announced that owned sales totalled $284.3m for March, with same-store sales increasing 10.1%.
 
Federated Department Stores reported total sales of $2.288bn for the month, an increase of 1.5% compared to total sales of $2.255bn in the same period last year. On a same-store basis, Federated's sales for March were up 2.3%.
