The following is a general round-up of US clothing and footwear retailers' June sales results released in the past couple of days: Men's fashion chain Men's Wearhouse Inc posted a better-than-expected 7.6 per cent jump in same-store sales for last month and added total sales in the five weeks to July 5 climbed 8.4 per cent to $138.1 million from $127.4m in the year-ago period.

The following is a general round-up of apparel and footwear retailers' May sales results released in the past couple of days: Casual apparel chain American Eagle Outfitters Inc said its same-store sales at its own brand stores rose 1.1 per cent last month with total sales up 12.2 per cent to $97.6 million from $87m last year. The operator of 870 stores added total same-store sales, which include its Bluenotes/Thriftys stores in Canada, rose 0.4 per cent with total sales at its Canadian operations up slightly at $5.5m from $5.4m.

The following is a general round-up of US apparel and footwear retailers' October sales results released in the past couple of days: Department store operator Nordstrom Inc reported a 9.6 per cent rise in same-store sales and said total sales for the four weeks to November 2 climbed 12.8 per cent year-on-year to $425.8m.

The Texas-based company reported net profit of $10.4 million, or 47 cents a share, for the 13 weeks ended August 3, from $2.3m, or eight cents per share, in the year-ago period.

Total sales at its Famous Footwear unit rose 1.2 per cent to $86.3 million, although sales at its Naturalizer division fell to $8.9m from $9.6m on a reduced store base.

Clothing retailer Stage Stores Inc on Tuesday said same-store sales for June climbed 8.9 per cent compared to the year-ago period amid strong sales of sportswear, children's apparel and swimwear. The Houston-based operator of 342 outlets under the Stage, Bealls and Palais Royal banners, said total sales for the month increased 7.7 per cent to $71.6 million from $66.5m in 2001. It added those climbs came despite flooding in its central Texas market.

Weiner's Stores has agreed to sell 31 store leases to California-based retailer Fallas Paredes, which specialises in selling clothes to Hispanic consumers. Fallas Paredes paid $1.6m for the leases and then worked out deals to return two of the leases to the landlords, said Weiner's vice president Michael Marcus.
