Overall, man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2019 to its lowest level on record and, in particular, there were declines in filament yarn production and staple fibre production. Furthermore, consumption of domestically produced fibres for industrial textile production in 2018/19 declined to its lowest level since 2009/10, and nonwoven fabric production fell to its lowest level since 2012.
