The Czech clothing and textile industry has seen its number of workers dwindle by approximately one eighth to 70,000 during the first half of 2005, Czech News Digest reported.

Most of the workers who were made unemployed during that period were female, the report said.

Fashion fair organiser Veletrhy Brno said that increase in cheap imports from countries such as China has gradually reduced employment in the sector from approximately 150,000 people ten years ago.
