The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) is to launch a new technology and equipment show for suppliers to the sewn products industry in conjunction with Urban Expositions.

The triennial trade event will debut at the Miami Beach Convention Center from 14-16 April 2004 and will run in conjunction with Material World, the international full package, sourcing and fabric trade event for the sewn products industries of the Americas.

In a statement, the AAFA said the new event "answers the need for a triennial sewn products equipment show and conference in the United States that fits into the international sewn products technology and equipment events calendar, which includes other triennial trade events serving this industry in Japan (spring 2002) and Germany (spring 2003).

"Our goal is to create the comprehensive international trade event in the Americas for the equipment, technology, logistics, financial, and service suppliers to the sewn products industry. We feel the need to start working on this event immediately and, therefore, now is the right time to announce our intentions," says Kevin Burke, President and CEO of AAFA.

"As chairman of the AAFA, I consider this new event to be a great opportunity for our supplier members whether they provide materials, equipment or computer systems. This will be their big event in the Americas every three years," adds Paul R Charron, AAFA chairman and chairman and CEO of Liz Claiborne Inc. "Our partners in production need a show like this to stay current and take advantage of the latest offerings from the world of technology and equipment."
