In an important development for garment and textile testing, a standard reference liquid laundry detergent has been approved by the AATCC's home laundering technology committee.

"The development of an industry-accepted standard liquid detergent will enable the industry to conduct more consumer relevant testing," the AATCC says.

It adds that the inclusion of a reference liquid detergent for standard and developmental testing in the textile area is long overdue since liquid detergents now make up nearly 60 per cent of the US detergent market.

The performance of the 2003 AATCC Standard Reference Liquid Laundry Detergent is comparable to nationally marketed products in the areas of cleaning (stain removal), colour care, and fabric appearance.

The 2003 AATCC Standard Liquid Laundry Detergent will be available for sale in the first quarter of 2004.
